Day 3: wine tour chateauneuf du pape & Orange roman city Visit to Orange: panoramic tour to discover its Roman Arch of Triumph, symbol of the Roman imperialism glory, and visit of its Antic Theatre, (entrance included) the most well-conserved theatre in the Roman Empire thanks to the stage wall.Wine tour through the vineyards between Orange and Châteauneuf-du-Pape and stop for panoramic view of the Rhône river valley from the Castle of Châteauneuf-du -Pape.Wine-tasting in a cellar in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, called «the 13 vine-plant’s country». You will discover the history of this famous house, born in Châteauneuf-du-Pape 100 years ago. In the late morning, transfer by car with your private chauffeur-guide to LES EYZIES.
Lunch on your own.
In the afternoon, discover of this world-known village: LES EYZIES, Capital of Prehistory where, in 1868, Cro-Magnon Man was discovered. It is the real centre of the “cave country”. Stroll through the village to the Cro Magnon shelter, followed by the fascinating visit to the National Museum of Prehistory housing bifaces, flints, tools , jewels, all the discoveries of the many excavations in the surrounding area. If time allows, visit to the nearby shelter Pataud. Stratigraphy layers over 30 feet high enables us to follow sucessive prehistoric occupations of the shelter that caved it. Excavations have unearthed various encampments between 33,000 and 18,000 BC. In a part of the shelter which is still intact, the ceiling features an ibex sculpted as a bas-relief. This helter gives an excellent insight into Cro Magnon’s way of life.
Transfer to SARLAT, medieval jewel of the Périgord. Check-in in your hotel of Charm located in the center.
Day 2:
This morning, visit the exceptional example of the Prehistoric Sanctuary, Font de Gaume cave in Les Eyzies. This world famous site ranks the single most important cave for containing the most stunning examples of prehistoric art. The actual cave is covered with an enormous number of vigourous and attractive paintings of bisons and deer. Whatever purpose they served, they show early man to have been possessed of the very highest artistic skills..... Then, continue to the nearby Combarelles cave. Along a winding passage, are many markings, some of which are superimposed one upon another. The drawings include nearly 300 animals: horses, bison, bears, reindeer, etc.

In the afternoon, visit to the Rouffignac cave also known as the “One Hundred Mammoths cave”, one of the largest decorated caves in the western world. Around 13,000 years ago, the galleries provided a sanctuary where 158 mammoths as well as wooly rhinoceros, bisons, ibexen and human representations were drawn and engravred. Finish this tour by visiting the exceptional reproduction of the Prehistoric Sanctuary LASCAUX II in MONTIGNAC. This world famous site (17,000 years old) marks the peak of perfection with polychrome paintings from the Magdalenian period: a succession of horses, goats, bulls, ibexen

Day 3:
This morning, visit to the Bernifal cave (walk in the woods for the access to the cave) wwhich houses more than 110 engravings and paintings, above all a huge mammoth drawn in clay. Then, continue to the shelter of Cap Blanc : over 15,000 years ago, prehistoric hunters sculpted horses, bisons, reindeer( some of which over 2 meters in length) directly into the limestone cliff face. This monumental frieze wwhich is the only one of its kind in the Périgord, is a living testimony to the artistic and technical talents of Magdalenian Men
Lunch on your own
Afternoon departure for BERGERAC and its vineyards. A special visit to the vineyards of PECHARMANT (or MONBAZILLAC according to your preference) to meet the winegrowers and visit their wine stores, cellar and… sample some of their produce amongst cannaiseurs. To be followed by a guided walking tour of the nearby city of BERGERAC, Capital of Vineyards and Tobacco. A charming medieval centre, its architecture is characterised by half-timbered brick.
Back to the hotel.
